FROM THE PASTOR

I want to thank all who participated in our visitation efforts in reaching out to our AWANA children families. I   believe we were able to visit with 45 of the 48 families. We have such a great ministry here on Wednesday nights. We have around 100 youth and children who hear the Word of God. The Lord has given us a great responsibility and you have been faithful in the giving of resources, space, time, prayer, and encouragement. The children and youth are learning that we love them and especially that God loves them.

I believe God has great things in store for our fellowship in 2010. We are seeking God’s will in starting an off-campus Bible study at Prince Hall, backyard Bible Clubs this summer, and growing our music ministry. We will also be taking a mission trip to Nicaragua. While we plan for these ministries we will also continue to strengthen our Sunday School so we can continue to build a solid foundation. I am praying that every member of our church is involved in a small group Bible study and they will find a place of service in God’s Kingdom work.

I am reminded in the book of Deuteronomy 11:10-24 when the people were ready to cross over into the promise land. God had so many blessings that awaited them. What the people of Israel needed to do was to love the Lord with all their heart, soul, mind, and strength. They were to follow Him, to obey His commands. God’s desire for us in 2010 is no different than any other year. He desires that His people will honor and glorify Him. His desire is one of love and fellowship. I praise God for my salvation. Where would I be without Jesus? May 2010 be a year for all of us to strive to be more like Jesus. Happy New Year! May God bless you as you follow Him.

Serving and Sharing Jesus,
Changing Lives,
Bro. Larry

P.S. Thank you for the Christmas gift. Susan and I will use it giving thanks for our family of fellowship. You are a great people and we love you.

 MINISTER OF EDUCATION

We ended the month of December averaging 124 in Sunday School.  I want to again encourage and keep to the forefront that you keep up with your class members. A card, a call, or my personal favorite a visit, will help to encourage them to be in attendance and a part of the ministry of the class. That goes a long way with visitors as well. The studies and statistics prove out that multiple “touches” are the catalyst to people becoming a part of the small group. Greater still is the fact that there might be a ministry need that you’d otherwise miss. Remember, it’s more than just getting them to come on Sunday Morning and learning- teaching them- it’s about also reaching and ministering to people.

A high attendance Sunday is also “on the horizon”. Easter is scheduled to be that event for the Sunday School. I am encouraging our classes to   begin praying and seeking ways they can work     towards that.  I have a reward of recognition in the works for the class that can increase the percentage of their average attendance for January, February, and March on Easter Sunday morning, April 4th.  Begin to plan and take action!

Awana begins againJanuary 6th. I hope you have a good and well-deserved rest and ready to come back and minister to the kids. It’s so good to be able to help lead them through God’s Word and help them understand how they can apply it to their lives and to do it in an interesting and fun way.  I am    always thankful for all who help in this ministry in any and every way.

I will be scheduling personal meetingswith teachers and other leaders of the Education    Department, through the coming weeks.  I will have a schedule to distribute by the 6th of January.  If there is a conflict contact me ASAP so we can reschedule.
Your Brother in Christ,                                                   Wes Henry

Thanks to Jay and all who worked and performed in the Christmas Cantatas. The   children and the adults did a wonderful job. We are also thankful for those who ran the sound, practiced with the children, worked with the props, and prepared the fellowship after the program. The evening was such a blessing!

  Youth Update

Looking Forward

2009 was an exciting and challenging year for the youth. From a mission trip to Philadelphia, a DiscipleNow Weekend to a camping trip and hiking at Red River Gorge, the youth have served others, had their faith challenged, and grown closer together in Christ. It’s been exciting to see them begin to learn what it means to be obedient, to see them give, and to watch them grow spiritually. It would be easy to become content.

In Philippians 3:12-14 we are encouraged not to become complacent in what has already been achieved as Paul writes - Not that I have already obtained all this, or have already been made perfect, but I press on to take hold of that for which Christ Jesus took hold of me. Brothers, I do not consider myself yet to have taken hold of it. But one thing I do: Forgetting what is behind and straining toward what is ahead, I press on toward the goal to win the prize for which God has called me heavenward in Christ Jesus.

This past year was great but it’s time to begin looking forward to and eagerly anticipate what Christ is going to do next. 2010 will hopefully see the youth continue in their growth. I ask that you be in prayer for the youth ministry. Pray that the students will continue to grow in their relationship with Christ, continue to serve, and continue to be respondent to the ways Christ is calling them to live.

Serving with you,                                                    Josh Benton

2009 Highlights

Sunday School

When asked to give a couple highlights about the Sunday School this past year I would have to begin with the fact we were able, after much prayer and consultation, to birth a new Sunday School class. The Mary and Martha class is a ladies class lead by Susan Brown in the lower level of the new addition.

Second, would have to be the new preschool playground. The Lord moved in through the generosity and efforts of both those within and outside of the EFBC body. Aptly named Noah’s Ark Playground in memory of Noah Booze, the vision of having a safe, fun, educational, and age appropriate playground for the preschool came to be in the early months of the year.

Also, 152 was our Sunday School high attendance in 2009 and is the number to beat for our upcoming high attendance event scheduled for January, February and March; our goal for this event is 200.
